The last week of events

Hannah and I have been hooked on this type of delicious salad.  I found a great recipe for a homemade poppyseed dressing and it is great (I like sweet dressings).  The salad is mixed greens, sliced strawberries, pecans, bacon bits and dressing.  The dressing recipe is:  3/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup cider vinegar, 4 1/2 t. grated onion, 3 t. ground mustard (I put 1 1/2 t. yellow mustard or a little less), 1 t. poppy seeds
1/2 t. salt.  Mix and then wisk in 1 cup oil.  This stores well.
Hannah's room.  We painted it a few months ago.  I think the color is a little bold but Hannah loves it.  She picked out fabric several months ago for a duvet cover.  The new quilting machine gave me the desire to get it done.  It is bold but Hannah loves it.  I pieced this crazy thing from a Pottery Barn Teen quilt that she loved.  I 'quilted' it without quilt batting to give the duvet cover a little substance (I only quilted the bold pieces).  Then sewed it to a sheet, put a zipper in the end and stuffed the duvet inside.  She is so happy.  I have to finish the curtains now and make a few pillows.
What to quilt on next????

Latest Quilting Project

The lighting is terrible because the back of this quilt is white flannel.  It turned out cute but I am still practicing (as if you can't tell).

I used cotton, flannel a white fleece and it turned out so cute.  I really like it.  Each row is freehand quilted except the row where I did the frogs with the laser light from the front of the machine.
I sure do love that new machine.
Some areas turned out better than others.
Can't wait to give it away.

Quilting and Straight Hair

Straightened my hair yesterday.  Hannah said, "It looks like you need some shape to it."  Larry liked it.
 Long Bangs.

I pieced this quilt several years ago and decided to 'practice' on it.
This is true practice.  Don't judge those crooked circles.  I need a class on patterns and how to decided what to do in each section of a quilt.  I will read up on it.

Time Out for ME!!! (part 2)

Time Out for Women is one of my favorite events.  I try to go every year and having adult daughters makes it all the better.  It was so great this year.  The speakers spoke directly to the issues and problems I am facing now.  We went with Joy and Miranda who are always up for a good time.

Bookstore - I love the bookstore they set up in the back and how, somehow in that large auditorium, they make it a peaceful place.  I always buy the girls a book for them to remember our time together.  I usually get Larry one for encouraging me to go, and this year I got a book on Fatherhood for Casey and Steven for letting the girls go.
Before dinner with Joy and Miranda.

This is how we get wild and crazy :)
I am a very blessed mom.  I love these two people with all my heart.  They are my strength, my support, my joy, my shinning light.  Thanks girls, for being you!
I love Time Out for Women!!  Next year Jessica and Hannah are coming along!

(Sorry, no photos of the Gap Outlet, IKEA, Donato's Pizza in the hotel room, lunch at the Bistro or dinner at Outback.  What a great weekend.  Can I please go back?? soon!

Saturday, Tim brought up some beautiful roses from his house.  Flowers make me happy.

Friday, there was a knock on the front door (rarely is the front door used) and when I went, there was a sweet old man with these flowers for me!!!  I thought they were from Millie because I took her to the doctor on Thursday.  But no, soooo much better!!!  I love Jennifer Smith and somehow she knows just when I need a pick-me-up.
This is the card.  Needless to say, I burst into tears.  I hope to one day be as thoughtful as Jennifer.  I sure do miss her.

Bathroom re-do

We are re-doing Hannah's bathroom.  We took down the builders mirror over the sink and I just finished painting two new mirrors to go over the sinks.  I need to get Larry to hang them.  I like the bathroom much better.  I should have taken a before picture of the eggplant colored bathroom with the ugly shower curtain.  I love these colors much better.  I want to do my bathroom soon.

Pansy P. Petunia

We had a Relief Society meeting last night entitled Poetry and Plants.  I wanted to find something from Shel Silverstein but didn't take the time to research and dig through his books.  I did, however, find this little goodie.  When I read it, I chuckled and chuckled and then broke out into a good laugh.  I didn't have the nerve to read it in front of the group last night but my friend Miranda did.  It didn't get too many laughs.  I guess you have to consider the audience.  Adults really don't like this type of humor (unless it is me).  I would love for Amanda and Sarah to read it to the kids and post their reactions/comments on here.

PANSY P. PETUNIA

I'm Pansy P. Petunia

and I never take a shower.

There isn't any need because

I smell just like a flower.

My breath smells like forget-me-nots.

My burps smell like impatiens.

My armpits smell like daisies

and my feet smell like carnations.

But what is most impressive,

and should tickle many noses,

is if I ever "cut the cheese"

it makes me smell like roses.

But maybe I'm mistaken

and could use a bath today,

'cause everyone who smells me

holds their nose and runs away!

(I chuckled again when I just read it)

WHAT THE HECK???

Yesterday, James pointed out that we had a snake skin on our back patio. I got the heeby-jeebies looking at this. We said it must have been a pretty big snake. I thought I would take a picture of the skin it left behind. The skin was in two pieces, this is just one.

This morning, I am out walking Cincy and she goes up to this bush and then jumps back really quick and I see THIS!!!  YUCK!!  I had to take two pictures to prove it was there.

What am I to do?????  I called Larry.  He didn't even seem worried one little bit.  I am afraid it could get into the house.  I did find a lizzard in the house once.  I tried to find a pellet gun but I think Brad must have taken it with him when he moved.  I may go buy a BB gun today.  I cannot, I repeat, CANNOT put up with this.  I wish I could find a cage or something but I couldn't get that close to it.  Wish me luck and I hope I live through this.
